No collateral damage in Sulu aerial bombing of Abu Sayyaf's lair - The Online Zamboanga Times

MANILA — There is no collateral damage in the aerial bombing of the Abu Sayyaf hideout in Parang, Sulu on Thursday, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Friday.

AFP spokesman Col. Arnulfo Burgos also said in an afternoon press briefing in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City that the Philippine Air Force (PAF) OV-10 Bombers used four 260-pounder napalm bombs.

Napalm is an explosive material made with Petroleum Jelly. In the Vietnam War it was used in Incendiary Bombs. These are bombs that explode and burn. It could be wiped off, so an adhesive (glue) was added to make it stick to the skin.

But it could be doused out with water, so magnesium was added to make it burn in water. People still survived, so lead was added to make napalm bombs poisonous.

“There is no collateral damage, no civilian casualties whatsoever, we were able to confirm there are 15 dead bodies including Umdra Jumdail, alias Doc Abu, of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG)-Jemaah Islamiyah and one alias Marwan,” Burgos said.

The AFP spokesman also said another confirmed dead is Moammar Jumdail, alias Ting, son of Dr. Abu; and Tati Jamhali III.

The PAF OV-10 is night capable. It is manufactured by the North American Aviation. The aircraft is a turboprop light attack and observation aircraft. It was developed in the 1960s as a special aircraft
