BLOOMINGTON -- Frontier Airlines confirmed its interest in the
Twin City market Friday, and Bloomington Mayor Steve Stockton said
Washington, D.C., and Denver are "high-priority destinations" for
any new carrier.
Frontier could receive up to $450,000 in incentives if it opts
to return this year.
Meanwhile, replacing AirTran Airways, the airport's
second-largest carrier, is critical to maintaining low fares at
Central Illinois Regional Airport, said Charlie Moore, CEO of the
McLean County Chamber of Commerce. Area residents are at risk of
paying from 20 percent to 40 percent more for airfares unless new
service is established, he said.
"When we lose AirTran, we lose that competition and this will
allow Delta and American (other carriers) to price adjust," Moore
said.
