TAMPA --
Tampa International Airport officials have put on hold $175,000 in proposed renovations to the offices of airport chief executive Joe Lopano and six vice presidents, an airport spokeswoman said Friday.
Also on hold are $325,000 in expenditures to build a new entrance to the aviation authority's executive offices, a public conference room and a community outreach center, and the $338,000 expansion of the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority's board room, which includes relocating the barbershop/shoe shine shop.
The deferred plans will enable the facilities division to focus on other parts of the $30 million main terminal renovation project that is under way and the $27.6 million renovation of the international airside terminal.
We are still moving all the VPs to the existing main aviation authority offices near Joe (Lopano)," spokeswoman Janet Zink said.
The airport is moving forward with renovating offices in the main terminal and in the administration building across the street; construction costs are estimated at $250,000.
"All of this construction serves about 100 people whose work spaces are being moved," Zink said in an email. "The goal is to make our working environment more efficient by locating teams of people who work together closer to each other physically."
Lopano, who took over as chief executive in January 2011, restructured the airport's organizational chart to better reflect the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority board's desire to focus on economic development ventures in addition to the core role of serving passengers.
Lopano created vice president positions, including some top-level executives whose offices were spread throughout the airport administration office complexes.
